Welcome to the TLT Mentor Course!

Course Summary

The purpose of this self-study course is to equip TLT Mentors with the fundamental aspects of Teen Leadership Training (TLT) ministry in their club.  This course is divided into four learning modules with learning activities and a quiz for each module.

What will I learn ?

You will learn the simple tasks and responsibilities that TLT Mentors fulfill in making staff and TLTs of a club successful in their leadership development.

What do I need to know ?

You need to have a copy of the Teen Leadership Training Director’s Guide (AdventSource, 2016).  This is the source material for this course.  References will be made to specific content within its pages.  Following the successful completion of this course you will receive a completion certificate.  If you have your Basic Staff Training certificate and want to work toward an Adventist Youth Ministry Training (AYMT) Certification then you will need to complete the required field work outlined below.

 

If you are a pastor or teacher, after completing this course for continuing education credit, you may re-enroll in the course for the purposes of resource retrieval, but not earn any additional CEUs.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  1. Articulate and model the purpose, goals, and objectives of the TLT program to your TLTs.
  2. Understand and implement the TLT program operations and Master Guide training for your TLTs.
  3. Facilitate the TLT Mentor responsibilities and functions as needed to make your TLTs successful.
  4. Model safe leadership practices that protect your TLTs throughout their leadership development.

Instructor

Tracy Wood serves as Associate Director for Youth & Young Adult Ministries for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.  His primary responsibilities are in the area of Young Adult Ministries, Public Campus Ministries, and Teen Leadership Training.  Pastor Tracy has been instrumental, along with Pathfinder leaders from around the North American Division, in the development of the TLT Academic Credit Option.

Course Directions

Work through all the modules of this course completing all the learning activities.  After each module complete the module quiz.  When all learning activities and module quizzes are completed for this course you may print your completion certificate to include in your TLT Staff Portfolio.

Portfolio Review

After one year of experience you will need to sit with your mentor and an experienced Area Coordinator in TLT ministry for a Portfolio Review.  You will review your TLT Staff Portfolio which includes the learning activities you have completed, and your Required Field Work experiences.

TLT Course Information

  • This course is intended to be a self-study course for the purpose of equipping pathfinder staff in the fundamental practices of TLT mentoring.  The learning experience will be helpful for all Pathfinder staff who desire to transition their Pathfinder ministry into a Leadership Skills Development Program for their teens.
  • This course is part of a series of TLT Staff Training Courses.  Additional courses include: Club Director / TLT Associate Director Operations, Area/District Coordinator Operations, Conference Director / TLT Coordinator Operations, and TLT Instructor Operations.
  • This course will assist all pathfinder staff in understanding the functions and role of a TLT Mentor.  A mentor must be or become a Pathfinder staff member.
  • Facilitating all the components of TLT Ministry is a complex and sometimes confusing work; especially for staff who are unfamiliar with the TLT program. It is natural to feel lost or confused; however, the payoff is well worth the effort.  Pray for wisdom and vision as you work through this course. God will bless you!
